Drink Buddy
Any drink counts, and that is not a concession
A streak that only alcohol satisfies is a mechanic that rewards drinking. A streak that any glass of water satisfies is not. The difference between those two products is one line in a definition, and everything uncomfortable about streaks in this category lives on the wrong side of it.
One check-in a day, of anything
The rule is as short as it sounds. Publish at least one check-in on a given local day and the streak continues. The drink can be water, coffee, tea, matcha, beer or a negroni; the counter does not look.
Because the unit is the day rather than the drink, spending more of your five does nothing for it. Five check-ins on Saturday and none on Sunday is a broken streak, while one glass of water on each day is an unbroken one.
Three mechanics that are missing on purpose
Each is standard elsewhere, and each was refused here for a reason that is specific to a drinks app.
| Mechanic | Status | Reason recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Streak freeze | Not built | A freeze is a held asset that makes the counter feel expensive to lose |
| Streak repair or restore | Not built | On a drinks app, repair is pressure to check something in daily |
| Anything purchasable | Not built | Monetisation is deferred, and this is not where it would start |
| Expiry notification | Prohibited | A message that a streak ends in two hours is a drink-now push |
What a streak does not tell you
Useful to know before reading anything into a long one, yours or a friend's.
- It is not a measure of how much anyone drank.
- One check-in a day keeps it, whatever was in the glass and however many other drinks went unlogged. A long streak and a quiet month are compatible.
- It is not a measure of alcohol at all.
- The counter has no category requirement, so it cannot distinguish a week of coffee from a week of cocktails and does not try to.
- It is not comparable across people in any ranked way.
- Friend comparison exists for check-in counts across all drink types; there is no global surface and no framing that names anyone a winner.
What is left to other pages
Named so silence is not read as an answer.
- The full list of statistics, and the longer list of figures that are never computed.
- Why the daily allowance is five, and how the local-day rule works alongside a rolling window.
- Why the catalogue contains water and coffee in the first place, which is what makes the streak definition possible.
- What happens to a streak if you delete a check-in. Deletion is covered with blocking and leaving, and the daily slot is not returned either way.
Questions
Do I have to drink alcohol to keep a streak?
No. Any generic drink type keeps it, water and coffee included. That is the clause that stops the counter from being a mechanic that rewards drinking.
Do extra check-ins in one day make the streak longer?
No. The unit is the day, not the check-in. One is enough, and a fifth adds nothing to the counter.
Can I freeze or repair a broken streak?
No. There is no freeze, no repair and nothing to buy. A missed day ends the current streak, though the longest one you have reached is kept.
Will the app warn me before my streak ends?
No, and it is not a setting. A notification saying a streak is about to end would be a drink-now push on a drinks app, so it is prohibited rather than disabled.
