Delete your Drink Buddy account
You can delete your Drink Buddy account yourself, and you do not need the app installed to start. This page describes both routes, what is erased, the two things that are not, and how long each step takes.
1. Deleting from inside the app
This is the fastest route and it needs nothing from us. Open Settings, choose to delete your account, and confirm.
The moment you confirm, your account and everything in it stops being visible to every other person. Your friends no longer see your check-ins, your comments or your profile.
2. Deleting without the app
If you have removed the app, or you cannot sign in, write to privacy@elanorya.com from the email address the account uses and ask for the account to be deleted. Using the account's own address is what lets us confirm the request is yours; we cannot act on a request we cannot tie to the account.
We start the same process described below and confirm to you when it is running. We answer within 30 days at the latest, and the target for an initial human response is two business days.
3. You have 7 days to change your mind
Deletion does not happen instantly, on purpose. For 7 days after the request the account is held in a cancellable state: invisible to everybody else, but recoverable by you.
To cancel, sign back in and choose to cancel the deletion. Everything comes back exactly as it was — your check-ins, your photos, your comments and your connections.
If you do nothing, the 7 days run out and the erasure below happens.
4. What is erased, and when
Once the 7 days have passed, a job that runs every hour erases the account permanently. In practice this means the deletion completes within an hour of the grace period ending, not on a weekly or monthly sweep.
Erased: your account and email address, your date of birth, your profile and avatar, every check-in with its note and its location, every photo you uploaded — including from our object storage, not only from the database — your comments and reactions, your friendships and groups, your settings, your devices and push tokens, and your sessions.
The job records what it removed, so that we can answer a later question about whether a deletion completed.
This is not reversible. After it runs we cannot restore the account, and asking us to will not help.
5. Two things that survive, and why
Your released username stays reserved for a period after the account is gone. This is deliberate: if a name became instantly available, somebody else could take it and be mistaken for you by people who knew the account. The reservation holds the name empty rather than giving it to anybody.
Content under a legal hold is kept until the hold ends. A legal hold applies where a legal obligation or an open investigation requires the material to be preserved. We would rather tell you this than promise unconditional erasure our own system does not perform.
Nothing else is kept. There is no shadow copy, no anonymised profile and no marketing record, because we do not build any of those.
6. Getting a copy before you delete
Deletion is permanent, so ask for your data first if you want it. Write to privacy@elanorya.com and we will send a copy within 30 days.
There is no one-tap export button in the app today. We fulfil these requests by hand rather than claim a feature that does not exist; when we build one, this page will say so.
7. If something goes wrong
If a deletion does not appear to have completed, or you cannot reach the setting in the app, write to privacy@elanorya.com and say what you tried. Include the email address on the account.
You may also complain to your data protection authority. Users in Türkiye may apply to the Personal Data Protection Board under Law No. 6698.
